Some BIG things this week!
Mainly, we started homework. Thursday they brought home their first homework assignment--writing and spelling practice. It might not be exactly what homework will look like on future Thursdays, but similar. This is how the week will look in the future:
Mon –
Spelling: write 3x, word sort
Tues – Spelling: abc order and Math
Wed – Spelling: syllables and Reading
Thurs – Spelling: sentences/pictures and
Writing
Fri – parents sign note saying they
checked the class blog
A few of our students have not yet begun spelling lists because we want to practice some more foundational skills first, such as rhyming. If your child received a page with pictures instead of words, that is why. All spelling lists are based on a test given at the beginning of the year. This helps me identify holes and begin there. Thus, you may be surprised when you see your child's first list--if they look too easy for you child, it's probably because there is a hole or two that we're trying to patch up before we continue on with the more difficult stuff.
I have talked to some of you about homework binders, rather than the typical take-home pages. Expect these to be ready by the middle of next week. I will include a note explaining how to use this binder.
Students should be well aware of the consequences of not bringing back homework--no technology or break until it's finished, even if they have to finish it at school. If they do bring it back, however, they can look for their picture on the blog as my special homework superstars!
We have also been finishing up our DRA testing. This should be completely done by the middle of next week--only 4 more students to go.
Drama has been a blast--we are getting the hang of "acting", which will help us later in role plays to practice appropriate social behaviors and helps us with emotions now. In music we have been studying rhythm and music that teaches us something.
I am really loving this class. As always, contact me with any questions you might have. Or even if it's just to chat. :)
Student of the Week:
