Week 27 - It feels like Spring!...

...and we couldn't be happier about it! Here's what our week looked like:

A little goal work. This week, rather than moving on to historical fiction and science fiction quite yet, we've spent a little extra time working on goal work. While we spend time doing this every week, it just seemed that we needed to give this a little extra attention this week. For some, this looked like retelling stories and answering questions about the text while for others this was making connections with the text or writing paragraphs about the reading.

Turn Taking and Sharing. In Superhero Social Skills we've practiced turn taking and sharing. This is something that many students in our class could use a bit of practice with, and it also is a favorite because there are so many fun games to play that help us practice taking turns. In order to do this, we first have to remember FEVER (face the person, eye contact, voice, expression, relax) and decide who goes first. Then we wait our turn and finally make sure everyone has a turn. They did very well in our practices with this. Play some card games or something at home and give them more opportunities to practice!

Writing. We've gotten a little more intense with our writing work here in room 175. Many of our 2nd graders began working on opinion writing, which  transitions in writing, predictive chart writing

Plants, plants and more plants. This week we have learned the names of some parts of plants, we've watched a film on how to care for a plant and we've begun sequencing a plant's life cycle. All of this will help us out next week when we begin taking care of our very own plants.
