Really, this week went by so quickly! We experienced some major victories this week with a few great students (see student of the week below).
This week we began our first Social Studies unit of the year on Utah. This unit is going to be great because it will be a little different for each student depending on his/her level. Some will be working on recognizing the shape of Utah and that it belong with Salt Lake City, etc, while others will work on doing a little research and learning new things about it. We'll also use some art/life skills time to learn how it applies to us as a group.
We are still doing some basics with identifying emotions and what they look like in Drama. A few higher students also began some test practice today that will occur every Friday to help reduce the stress of test-taking. (I sure could have used something like that in college!)
In art we created the cover of our year's scrapbook. We will spend time each month creating a new page for the previous month. At the end of the year they will have all their great school memories preserved. We're all really excited about it.
Coming up:
Expect some homework to come home next Thursday. The reasons I am waiting until Thursday are:
1) once testing is done we will know just where your child is at and give appropriate homework
2) we will have a life skills lesson on homework on Wednesday, during which we will go over expectations and practice it (so you don't end up doing it for them!)
3) some of our supplies for homework are still on their way in the mail
If you have questions/concerns, please contact me about this!
Also: starting next week you will receive contact via text message only if you requested it. If you would like it instead of a paper homenote/other, please let me know and send me the name of your phone service provider so that I can get it set up and ready.
Aaaand: look for notes about parent volunteers/room parents next week. PTA is setting up a meeting for room parents and teachers to attend so we can plan ahead.
