Week Ten

This week was a little spooky. Having subs all week long can affect a classroom that way. So do a lot of little zombies and ninjas.

What a great week, though!

We are continuing our study of life cycles in science as well as our practice with the problem solving in social skills. They are getting really good at identifying how big a problem is--now we are going to extend it a little further and focus on the appropriate response based on the size of the problem.

In reading groups we have students working on text features, identifying verbs (for this we played a game called angry verbs instead of angry birds--they really got a kick out of that), blending sounds, identifying syllables, setting and character, as well as some writing very nice and focused paragraphs. The wide variety of students we have keeps our classroom so interesting. Each student also has a RAZ Kids account he/she is using at school. If you would like access to this at home but you are not sure how to use it, please click on the tab above for more information or get in touch with me and I will make sure you can figure it out.

Thursday morning we kept our regular routine, but after lunch the fun began. We watched a few short Halloween stories, paraded our costumes around the world (it was so fun seeing the kids in our class get so excited when they saw their parents waiting amongst the crowd--thanks for your support), and then our party began.
Many many thanks to our wonderful room moms who helped plan and prepare AND run the Halloween party, as well as to those who contributed treats and came to help out during the party. The kids had so much fun--our party involved making bat crafts, doughnut monsters, pumpkin bowling and mini golf, Halloween bingo, and a creepy haunted house obstacle course put on by the occupational therapists.

Today many of the kids in our class were SO GOOD they earned an extra recess right before library. Oddly enough, we saw two other classes who earned an extra recess at the end of the day out there too. The day after Halloween seems to be a great day for more exercise. :)

Here is our class in all its Halloween glory:

A note about today's DOJO points--everyone was penalized an extra 4 points on accident. Just a small error.

  1. What cute kids. Do you by chance have a picture where Brody is facing the camera? I couldn't make it to the parade or party. :(
